Ceramic Art Objects and Tablewares

George Khut’s ceramics are made to be lived with. They are intended to ‘function’ as art objects, and also as vessels for the presentation of food, and the display of plants & flowers.

He reinterprets historic East Asian ceramic forms and functions through a pared-back contemporary sensibility, exploring the materiality and alchemic interplay between clay-body, glaze and kiln-atmosphere.

George studied ceramics with Les Blakeborough and Ben Richardson during his BFA at the University of Tasmania, School of Art, in Hobart during the early 1990’s, before pursuing a career in electronic and interactive art.

Since 2018 he has been refocussing his practice back towards working with clay, building his own workshop with Peter Phillips at Bargo Pottery, and working as a studio assistant at Malcolm Greenwood Ceramics.
